What is forest play?

Fun weekly outdoor play sessions with loads of exciting activities and learning aimed at toddlers up to the age of 4, mums, dads and grandparents too!

What happens during a forest play session?

We will all be creating crafts and building stuff, using our imagination, scrambling, swinging on tyre swings, knocking down baked bean tins, singing, finding creepy crawlies, learning about trees, plants, birds (we even had a visiting cow the other day!), eating biscuits, telling stories, going on adventures, lighting fires, toasting marshmallows!.. to name a few :)

Who runs the sessions?

The sessions are led by highly trained Forest School staff and often accompanied by our forest school trainee instructors who are all a bundle of fun! Adult participation is encouraged and there is always loads to keep you occupied!

What is the site like?

The sessions are run from our purpose built site in a peaceful location, safely hemmed in by hedges (so you don’t need to use the eyes in the back of your head too much) and covered by trees. We have a large tent (for when the Cornish sunshine falls in liquid form!) and a toilet block with changing facilities and kiddy friendly toilet.

We also have (among other things):

A sheltered fire pit area
Tyre swings to play on
An outdoor mud kitchen
An indoor training kitchen complete with mini cooker for baking things in
An awesome play house
A mud painting wall
A pizza oven
Places to scramble up and down
Loads of other equipment and resources to make use of
And plenty of proper Cornish mud!

We also have access to our 10 acres of woodland which has a stream weaving it’s ways through the valley.

How much does it cost?

Book a half term block of sessions from £8/child (second child comes for £6)
Book a single session (subject to availability) £12/child (second child £8)

This price includes the use of our carpark, session resources and cold drinks. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate will be available at an additional cost.

How long are sessions?

Sessions are 2 hours long.

Do I need to stay with my child/children?

Yes! Whilst the session will be led by one of our trained leaders, parents/ carers bringing their children are expected to stay and will remain responsible for their children during the session.

What do I need to bring?

and a sense of adventure!

What is Forest School?

Forest school is a methodology that encourages offers opportunities for children and adults alike, to learn and grow into well rounded human beings through development of all areas of their body, soul and spirit. It is widely recognised that forest school helps increase confidence, social skills, communication, motor skills, concentration and increase an understanding of the natural environment. It is a great way for children to get outside and stay healthy and active and to build strong friendships. Here at Newquay Forest School we have had years of experience of running sessions for our local community. We have run events for various schools and preschools as well as training courses and family days and have established a well thought through method of forest school as well as a beautiful setting in which to do it in.
