Newquay Forest School invites you to bring your group to our beautiful outdoor site and experience Forest School.

Detailed Information

What is forest school?

Forest School is a process that seeks the development of children through self initiated and adult supervised activities in a woodland environment.

What happens during a forest school session?

Forest School sessions always involve exploring and playing amongst the natural environment.

Within safe boundaries set by the leader, children are free to choose what to do and who to do it with. They are encouraged to be investigative with what they find around them and inspired to use their imaginations for how they might use it. Adults are present to help facilitate these processes along with helping the children identify and manage the risks faced in a woodland environment.

Sessions may also include learning skills useful to the outdoor environment such as fire lighting, shelter building, tool use, cooking and wildlife identification amongst other things. There is always an opportunity to learn together.

Who runs the sessions?

Newquay Forest School will provide one of our trained leaders to run your sessions.

What is the site like?

Newquay Forest School has a custom built site for forest school. It is safely hemmed in by parallel running hedges lined with numerous hazel, holly, ash and oak trees. At one end of the site is a large open canvas tent. The tent is kitted out with hay bails for comfort, a clay oven, various tools (spades, buckets etc) for use and a toilet hut with ramp access. Outside the tent is a kitchen area including a wood fired oven and large picnic bench. Further down the site there is:

  1. -A sheltered fire pit complete with wood rounds to sit on.

  2. -A tyre swing

  3. -An outdoor mud kitchen

  4. -A hand crafted wooden playhouse

  5. -A mud painting wall

  6. -A viewpoint to spy onto the neighboring fields and farmers

  7. -Banks to scramble up and down

  8. -Lots of other equipment and resources to make use of

  9. -And plenty of creepy crawlies to find in the mud and amongst the plant life!

We also have access to our 10 acres of woodland which has a stream weaving it’s ways through the valley.

How much does it cost?

Sessions cost £120 when 6 or more sessions or £135 for a single session. This price includes refreshments and resources.

How long are sessions?

Sessions are 2 hours long.

How many children and adults can attend?

Up to 15 children can attend each session. A minimum of 2 adult helpers (parent/teacher etc) will also need to attend but more are welcome.

What do I need to bring?

You will need to bring:

  1. -full waterproofs (top and bottoms),

  2. -warm clothes (fleeces and wooly hats are ideal - better to get hot and take layers off than get cold and feel a bit miserable),

  3. -some welly boots (or other appropriate waterproof shoes),

  4. -any necessary medication (like inhalers etc)

  5. -and a sense of adventure!

What if I get thirsty or hungry?

Water and a pack of biscuits will be available each session. Hot drinks will also be available in our kitchen area for adults.

Where is it?

We disclose our address upon booking. But we can let you know we are tucked away amongst farmland just 15 minutes drive east of Newquay.

What about parking?

We have a small carpark on our site to leave your cars or minibus in for free.

Why come to Newquay Forest School?

Forest school offers a wonderful opportunity for every child we see. Not only do children get to have fun playing in a lovely environment but they also get to develop as people. It is widely recognised that forest schools help increase confidence, social skills, communication, motor skills, concentration and increase an understanding of the natural environment. On top of this Newquay Forest School has had over 3 years experience running sessions for the local community. Having run events for various schools and preschools as well as training courses and family days we have established a well thought through method of forest school as well as a beautiful setting in which to do it in.
